About Us
THE STORY OF SMITH & WRIGHT
We're Smith and Wright. Two friends and colleagues who have made our great escape from the grime and grind of the industrial sector, and found refuge amongst the trees and fresh air of Southern Ontario's countryside.
After learning the ways of the sawyer from Smith's Poppa, we've built up a large inventory of select, kiln-dried Canadian hardwoods and slabs, all sourced locally and sustainably from felled or fallen trees.
Our brand is an homage to our family names, and the skilled crafts of sawmilling, woodworking, smithing, and more, passed down through the centuries. We honour the skills of those who came before us, and these values echo in our mission statement:
Smith & Wright Hardwoods. Purveyors of fine Canadian hardwoods. Honouring the life story of trees by helping you to continue their legacy through woodworking.
SUSTAINABILITY
It is not lost on us that the value we place in storytelling can only be realized through the equal valuing of sustainability. That is why, from the onset, we have established the following principles of sustainability to keep us accountable in the procurement of trees and logs:
- •Our logs are sourced from locally or regionally fallen or felled trees.
- •We must know the circumstances in which our logs were felled, and they must align with sustainable practices and have legitimate reasons for being felled (i.e. for the overall health of forests, for potential hazard reasons, for necessary infrastructure, etc.)
- •We at Smith & Wright Hardwoods will do our utmost to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current sustainable forestry and lumber industry practices, wood diseases, healthy forest science, and more. This is in order to implement aligned practices in our business operations!
